Construction I OI2-Building

The building for Human Health & Life Sciences at VU University campus in Amsterdam is one of the first buildings in academic Netherlands developed for Human Life Sciences. Since January 2016, scientists work here at VU University Amsterdam, the UvA and the VU University Medical Centre in social issues.

In the building researchers make use of a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, cooperative partners and commercial parties can rent office and laboratory facilities (labhotel). The building has a large number of labs present.

The new building is designed as sustainably as possible. The laboratories have a high degree of flexibility. Cooling is done with water from the Nieuwe Meer and other energy comes from the Energy Centre VU / VUmc. The building has a green sedum roof, which absorbs water and acts as insulation. Due to the structure the building obtains much light during the day and this creates a substantial saving on artificial light.

The exterior characterizes itself by the striking steel structure in one of the flanks of the building. WANTED has made a group of Steel Erectors and construction cleaners for the construction of this eccentric utility project.
